Reading list: Recipes for an Encounter

Lately I’ve been reading Recipes for an Encounter a book iteration of the 2008 exhibition Kits for an Encounter at Western Front.

The book delves into instructionals- written instructions left by artists for viewer-participants to complete. Some highlights from the book so far are Vahida Ramujkic’s Shengen with Ease (2006) a collection of instructions for non-EU citizens to navigate the bureaucratic maze of changing their status within the EU and Janice Kerbel’s Bank Job (1999) wherein the artist cased a financial institution in London as if she were planning on pulling off a heist.
